Jim Delany, Mark Murphy Top Candidates For Packers Presidency
Published November 26, 2007
The Packers have “trimmed to 10 candidates” their search for a new President & CEO to replace Bob Harlan, with Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany and Northwestern Univ. AD Mark Murphy the “potential frontrunners,” according to Silverstein & Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. A source indicated that Delany “appears to be at the top of the list,” but other sources “don’t think the process is complete and a lot of discussion must take place before the necessary consensus among the team’s [BOD] can be met.” The NFL source who confirmed Delany’s candidacy "also identified Murphy as another leading candidate.” Harlan earlier this year said that he “felt strongly that a person with NFL experience was needed to run the franchise,” but the emergence of Delany and Murphy “indicates the search committee is willing to look outside the NFL.” Other known candidates include Packers VP/Player Finance and General Counsel Andrew Brandt, Packers VP/Public Administration and Corporate Counsel Jason Weid and Corporate Financial Advisors Managing Dir Joe Sweeney (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/22).
