Fast Break: 27 Of 30 NBA Teams Over Salary Cap

For the current NBA season, 27 of the 30 teams will be over the $55.6M salary cap, while 12 teams will have payrolls over $67.9M, triggering the luxury tax, according to David Moore of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The Knicks, who lead league in payroll, as well as the Mavericks and Nuggets (second and third, respectively) are the "only three that obliterate" the luxury tax threshold, "and each of those teams is working its way back to the number." Celtics F Kevin Garnett is the league's top-paid player, and the Celtics now have three of the 25 highest-paid players in the league.
