Santa Anita Park To Tweak Weekly Live Racing Schedule
Published November 15, 2007
Santa Anita Park will conduct live horse racing “in an effort to increase on-track business” on a Thursday-Monday schedule during its 71st winter/spring meeting from December 26-April 20. The track has traditionally hosted live racing on a Wednesday-Sunday schedule (THOROUGHBREDTIMES.com, 11/13). Santa Anita President Ron Charles said that the change is a “one-year experiment to see how fans respond.” Charles said that the track will “invest heavily in promoting Monday racing, including free general admission and on-track handicapping contests and free box-seat accommodations for Thoroughbred Club members on a first-come, first-served basis.” The track will also offer a “strong simulcast menu” on Mondays (SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE, 11/14).
