Supplement Store Owner Names Cowboys, Falcons As PED Users
Published November 14, 2007
David Jacobs, who yesterday pleaded guilty in Sherman (TX) District court to possession of illegal steroids, has given federal authorities the names of current and former Cowboys and Falcons players who he “says he supplied with performance-enhancing drugs,” according to sources cited by Jason Trahan of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Jacobs has not publicly named any of the players, nor have his claims been “publicly verified.” No evidence has been released “related to the involvement of the athletes.” Cowboys Dir of PR Rich Dalrymple said, “We don’t know this individual. He has never been affiliated with this organization, and we have just been made aware of his situation yesterday.” On thesupplementoutlet.com, the Web site for his Plano-based nutrition store, Jacobs says he is a "certified personal trainer" who "offers guidance to many top athletes" including Cowboys and Falcons football players. NFL Senior VP/PR Greg Aiello said, “Consistent with our policies, we will deal with any NFL-related involvement promptly and aggressively” (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 11/14). The Falcons in a statement said, “We have no knowledge of David Jacobs. He was never authorized by the Falcons to work with, assist or train any of our players. Consistent with NFL policies, the league office handles matters such as these" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 11/14).
