Goodyear Covers Philadelphia Marathon Course With Tire Tracks
Published November 12, 2007
Goodyear, a first-time sponsor of Sunday's Philadelphia marathon, "will work with marathon and transportation officials to apply a light-blue tire track" the length of the 26.2 mile course, according to Paul Vigna of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. A race spokesperson said the blue line "is part of many large-scale marathons, and for the first time in our race's 14-year history, with Goodyear's partnership, it will be part of our race." Goodyear spokesperson Ed Markey said the company "first had the idea back in 2005 and we've had trouble trying to figure out [how] to pull it off." The line will "mimic the appearance" of Goodyear's Fortera TripleTred tire, the same design Pistons G Richard Hamilton had braided into his hair for three games in January '05. Also as part of the sponsorship, Goodyear will receive course signage and will distribute coupons to competitors (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 11/12).
