PGA Euro Tour To Host Golf Record $20M Tournament In Dubai
Published November 9, 2007
The PGA European Tour will "stage the richest tournament in [golf] history," a $20M (all figures U.S.) event in Dubai to close the '09 season, according to Lawrence Donegan of the Manchester GUARDIAN. The tournament will feature a $10M purse, and another $10M will be "divided as 'bonus' money among the highest-ranked players." Details of the Dubai gov't-backed event will be announced later this month. The British Open and The Masters carry purses of $8.86M and $7.30M, respectively, and the winner of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup earns $10M in deferred money. Donegan notes Tiger Woods "is a fixture at the Dubai Desert Classic every February and has been paid a reported [$42.21M] after agreeing to make Dubai the site of his first course design" (Manchester GUARDIAN, 11/9).
