AAFL Cuts Number Of Franchises For Inaugural Season To Six
Published November 9, 2007
The All-American Football League (AAFL) will begin its inaugural season next year with six teams instead of the expected eight, according to Mark Alesia of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The league will have teams based in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas. An Indiana-based team was scheduled to play in Purdue Univ.’s Ross-Ade Stadium, but Purdue Assistant AD/Communications Tom Schott said, “They had some concerns about whether Central Indiana could and would support a franchise.” AAFL Founder Marcus Katz said that “market research for Indiana ‘wasn’t terribly strong.’” Katz said, “We decided to stick to places with a real pent-up demand for football, or places attached to metropolitan areas” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 11/9).
