Hunker Down: UGA Brings In Estimated $7M Per Home Football Game
Published November 9, 2007
The Univ. of Georgia (UGA) Athletic Association generates an estimated $7M from each home football game, according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. This figure does not include the school’s portion of TV deals, but rather “the dollars of a Saturday in Sanford [Stadium] -- the money generated purely because 92,746 fans pack the place.” Tickets bring in around $2.2M, and contributions to the William C. Hartman Jr. Fund generate $3.74M. Fans must “buy the right to buy tickets by making contributions” to the fund, which in FY ’07 brought in $26.2M. The fund “helps pay for scholarships and other costs of UGA’s sports programs.” The 77 suites at Sanford Stadium generate $414,000 per game, and concessions via Aramark gross $325,000, or $3.53 per fan. Georgia Sports Properties guarantees UGA a set amount of more than $3M this year for marketing sales, putting the per-game estimate at $300,000. The school also on average sells $51,000 of merchandise on game days (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 11/8).
