Super Friends: FBR Open Looks To Take Advantage Of Big Event
Published November 8, 2007
The PGA Tour's FBR Open at TPC Scottsdale will be held during Super Bowl festivities in Phoenix next year, but the Phoenix Thunderbirds, the golf event's organizers, "are embracing the NFL's presence in the Valley that same week and have made plans to accommodate more fans, especially on Friday and Saturday," according to Dave Vest of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Tournament Chair Tim Louis said he believes the NFL's presence "will help (attendance), because so many people are in town for the Super Bowl, and a lot of them don't have tickets, so they'll need something to do on (Sunday). I think a lot will come out to the Open." Thirty additional sky boxes will be added to the tee-box area of the 16th hole, making it "rowdier than ever." The tournament will also debut a new spectator tent, called the Champions Pavilion, located between the second and ninth greens with tickets priced at $50 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 11/8).
