U.S. Bowling Wants Record Attendance For Event At Miller Park
Published October 25, 2007
The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) will hold the finals for the USBC Masters at Miller Park on Sunday for the second time in four years and hopes to "break the all-time attendance record for a televised bowling event," according to Gary D'Amato of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The USBC increased its marketing budget for the tournament by 400% over the '06 event, and scheduled it during a Sunday the Packers do not play. USBC VP/Marketing & Communications Tom Clark said, "We know it's successful on TV, but in person we've always been saddled with the fact that the finals take place in a bowling center where you can only fit a few hundred people." The record attendance for a televised event is 7,212 for the '95 U.S. Open at Joe Louis Arena. The Masters drew 4,303 fans when it was first held at Miller Park in '04 (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/24).
