Mail Time: MSG Renovating Post Office As Part Of Move
Published October 23, 2007
The Dolan family "is requesting significant alterations to the James A. Farley Post Office interior as part of an agreement to move MSG into the building's western annex," according to two sources cited by Engquist & Michaud of CRAIN'S N.Y. BUSINESS. The "most striking change would involve installing a glass wall between the proposed train hall and MSG," and MSG officials also want to "expand two large interior arches leading into the train hall." N.Y. Landmarks Conservancy President Peg Breen said, "This started out as a project to provide a great gateway to New York, and it is turning into a lobby for [MSG]." If the National Park Service decides the changes "trample on historic preservation rules," federal tax credits of $250M "could also be in jeopardy" (CRAIN'S N.Y. BUSINESS, 10/21 issue).
