King Of The Mountain: Prudential Center Receives High Marks
Published October 19, 2007
Devils Owner Jeff Vanderbeek has "built one of the finest arenas in the country," the Prudential Center in Newark that opens next Thursday for a run of ten Bon Jovi shows according to Steve Politi of the Newark STAR-LEDGER, who toured the arena this week. The facility "is intimate in the seating arena, yet airy and open in the concourses." The upper deck seating "is closer to the ice than the upper rows of lower seating sections in most arenas, and so steep you feel like you're looking down on the action. If there's a bad seat, I couldn't find it." The restaurants offer "great views" of the playing surface, and the glass exterior allows fans to see both N.Y. and the Newark Airport. The arena "itself can be enough of an attraction, a reason to buy the tickets." However, the front of the building with its video screen "should be facing Broad Street," and one "can barely see the arena from the road" because it is obstructed by the parking deck. Also, three "of the coolest bars" are only accessible to club-seat ticket holders and high-rollers (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 10/19).
