Charity Stripe: U.S. House Honors Favre For Charitable Work

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring Packers QB Brett Favre for his charitable work and for setting the NFL record for career touchdown passes. U.S. Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) said that he “hoped the resolution does not distract Favre ‘because he’s my starting quarterback this weekend (for my fantasy team), and I need a lot of points’” (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 10/10)....Browns WR Braylon Edwards is profiled in a sports section Cover Story by USA TODAY's Jarrett Bell, who notes Edwards pledged $1M to Cleveland’s public schools for 100 scholarships for children to attend college. Last year, he created a $500,000 endowment at his alma mater the Univ. of Michigan, the “largest donation by an active pro athlete” (USA TODAY, 10/10)....New Era, along with Bills P Brian Moorman, QB J.P. Losman, WR Lee Evans and WR Roscoe Parrish, have designed a cap to honor TE Kevin Everett, who suffered a severe spine injury in the first game of the season. The cap will go on sale today, with all proceeds going directly to Everett’s charity (THE DAILY)....The NFL has launched “NFL Play 60: The NFL Movement for an Active Generation,” a campaign focusing on the health and wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active at least 60 minutes per day. Players involved in the campaign include Browns CB Gary Baxter, Patriots QB Tom Brady, Saints RB Reggie Bush, Bears G Roberto Garza, Chargers TE Antonio Gates, Rams RB Steven Jackson, Giants QB Eli Manning, Cowboys QB Tony Romo, Panthers WR Steve Smith, and Cowboys TE Jason Witten.
