NFL Tells Teams Not To Do Deals With Enlyten Sports Strips
Published October 5, 2007
The NFL sent a letter this week "to all club marketing officials saying that Enlyten could not be an official sponsor of any team," according to CNBC's Darren Rovell. The letter stated that Enlyten, which markets electrolyte-replenishing sports strips, could take out ads in NFL team media but "would not have the use of the NFL shield or any of the team logos." Enlyten's president is Dan Kelly, brother of former Bills QB Jim Kelly, and the company placed an ad in the Bills game program "calling itself the official electrolyte strip of the Bills." Sources said that NFL sponsors Gatorade "wasn't happy about this and voiced their opinion with the league, saying that they own the official electrolyte replacement designation with all of the league's teams." Rovell notes Enlyten products be in Sports Authority stores across the U.S. in the next couple weeks (CNBC.com, 10/5).
