NFL Names & Faces: Giants, Jets Gear Not Selling Well
Published September 21, 2007
With the Giants and Jets both at 0-2, Wes Alexander, manager of the Modell's Times Square store, said sales of the teams’ jerseys “haven’t taken off – they’re down 30 to 40 percent. It’s been slow going.” Modell’s sales clerk Nkosi Lynch said, “That’s because of Tiki Barber [retiring]. We sold a lot of his jerseys last year” (N.Y. POST, 9/21).
NICE GRAB: Patriots WR Randy Moss has been named spokesperson and advocate for American Youth Football, with his Grabman clothing line named the organization's official team uniform supplier. The line, which a press release calls "reasonably priced, top-quality football apparel and accessories," will be unveiled at the AYF National Championships December in Orlando. Moss will also launch Deep Threat Equipment, including receiver gloves, compression garments, skins and other game wear. He has also founded the Randy Moss Grabman Team Uniform Endowment Fund to raise money to subsidize uniform costs for underprivileged teams, children and families (American Youth Football).
NOTES: The cover athlete for EA Sports’ new NFL Tour football game will be selected from an online poll where voters can choose among Dolphins DE Jason Taylor, Colts DE Dwight Freeney and Chargers LB Shawne Merriman.
