Running From The Devil: D'Rays Emphasizing Shorter Nickname

Rays Changing Uniforms, Logo For Next Season
The D'Rays are removing "Devil" from their name beginning next season, and as part of their planned switch to blue-schemed uniforms, they have also taken "Tampa Bay" off of road jerseys in favor of the new Rays logo, according to Marc Topkin of the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES. The new uniforms are not expected to be unveiled until November, but word of their new design has "been trickling out" online, including a new color scheme of navy and light blue "with a sunburst of yellow, and a return to sleeved jerseys from vests." A new logo features "Rays" over a baseball diamond, and another stacks "Tampa Bay" and "Rays." The team will keep "TB" on their caps (TAMPABAY.COM, 9/20).

KICKIN' IT OLD SCHOOL: In K.C., Jeffrey Flanagan notes the Royals have requested and been granted by MLB the use of their powder-blue jerseys as a third uniform next year. The Royals, who wore the jerseys from '73-91, have not confirmed the report (K.C. STAR, 9/21).
