Wasserman Accumulating Potentially Valuable Stable Of Sites
Published September 18, 2007
Wasserman Media Group "has amassed a number of niche Web sites under its Sportnet umbrella," which includes skateboarder Ryan Sheckler's Web site, motocross.com, hopperracing.com and high school sports site pso.com, as well as the online communities for USA Gymnastics, USA Swimming and USAT&F, according to Peter Lauria of the N.Y. POST. A source said that Sportnet's Web sites "generate more than 3 million unique monthly visitors combined. It has quietly turned Sportnet into one of the Web's top 15 most heavily trafficked sports networks." TSE Sports & Entertainment President Robert Tuchman: "What [WMG] has done is go into a ton of areas that no one's looked at and acquire properties that were undervalued." Sources "are divided, however, on how well [WMG] ... can monetize Sportnet." Engage Marketing President Kevin Adler is among those who "view the monetizing of these second-tier sports Web sites as challenging because there's a limited pool of mainstream sponsors" (N.Y. POST, 9/18).
