Apple A Day: Boeing Will Sponsor Rivalry Through 2010
Published September 7, 2007
Boeing has agreed to become the presenting sponsor of the Apple Cup, the annual Univ. of Washington-Washington State football game, through the 2010 season in a deal brokered by ISP Sports, according to Craig Smith of the Seattle Times. Both schools will receive money from the sponsorship, but “no figures were announced.” Unlike bowl game title sponsors, Boeing’s name “won’t appear in the official name of the game.” The logo for this year’s 100th anniversary game, scheduled for November 24, displays the words “proudly sponsored by Boeing” in small type under an apple (SEATTLE TIMES, 9/7). In Seattle, Molly Yanity writes Boeing’s request to keep the financial terms undisclosed “made for an awkward news conference.” WSU AD Jim Sterk said that he “didn’t know how the money would be divvied up” or how much would go to his athletic department.” Yanity also noted ISP Sports has been UW multimedia rights holder since last February (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 9/7).
