NCAA Projects New Final Four Layout Will Pull In Extra $4M
Published September 7, 2007
The NCAA projects $4M in additional revenue from changing the seating configuration for Final Fours from one side of the dome to the center of the building, according to Dave Dye of the DETROIT NEWS. The first Final Four with the court placed in the center of the dome will be '09 at Ford Field, which will test the configuration during the Midwest Regional this March. Regional sites in domes last season -- San Antonio and St. Louis -- both drew less than 30,000 per day. Ford Field Senior VP/Business Development & Sales Dave Glazier: "We'll blow them away. We've already sold 40,000 for the regional. We're going to have 60,000-plus. If it's Michigan State, forget about it." Dye notes the stadium drew a world-record crowd of 78,129 for Kentucky-Michigan State in '03, and Michigan State is "considering another game at Ford Field" during the '08-09 season (DETROIT NEWS, 9/7).
