Baltimore-based Moag & Co. CEO John Moag, who consulting the NBA on attempts to build a new Kings arena, in a letter to Cal Expo management wrote his firm has been authorized by NBA Commissioner David Stern "to enter into more formal discussions and negotiations. If the Cal Expo board is interested in entertaining such discussions we stand prepared to do so immediately.” Cal Expo Deputy GM Brian May said that he “thinks the board will likely authorize the negotiations” at its September 28 meeting (SACRAMENTO BEE, 9/6).
SETTING AN EXAMPLE: In Oakland, Art Spander writes under the header, “N.Y. Football Stadium An Example For Bay Teams.” Spander: “Two football teams sharing one stadium, to the benefit of both. A concept that requires foresight and cooperation. Which means it could never happen in Northern California. Not the way [Raiders Owner] Al Davis or [49ers co-Owner] John York go about business” (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 9/7).
BACK TO SCHOOL: In Charlotte, Kevin Cary reports while "few [high schools] nationally offer PSLs," South Point High School in Belmont, North Carolina, has sold 300 $50 PSLs for its football games, and South Point AD Scott Lee said there are 200 people on a waiting list. The PSLs will add $15,000 to the school’s athletic budget this year and are “expected to bring at least $6,000 next year” (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/7).
