The Color Purple: Nike To Help New Orleans With LSU-Tulane Game

LSU, Tulane To Wear Special Nike Uniforms
For Saturday's Game In New Orleans
LSU and Tulane Univ. will both wear new Nike uniforms for their game this Saturday at the Superdome in New Orleans as part of an effort to help the city's rebuilding effort, according to Jim Kleinpeter of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE.  In conjunction with the game, Nike will launch a limited edition line of replica jerseys, T-shirts, hats and other items, with sale proceeds benefiting the New Orleans rebuilding effort through Nike's Let Me Play New Orleans fund.  The game jerseys, to be auctioned off after the game, will bear “a phoenix-style pelican logo that represents the rebirth” of the city. LSU for the first time will wear an ensemble that includes purple jerseys with white pants and white headgear, and Tulane will wear white jerseys, white pants and its regular green helmets. LSU Equipment Manager Greg Stringfellow said, “(Nike) came to us with an idea of doing something for this game. They wanted to do something for New Orleans.”  Kleinpeter notes fans attending Saturday's game are also "encouraged to bring old sneakers, which will be collected and recycled into sports surfaces" at four New Orleans Recreation Department facilities (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 9/25).  In Shreveport, Glenn Guilbeau writes the new uniforms have "created a runway buzz."  LSU coach Les Miles said his players have "been looking forward to this since we told them during camp."  DT Glenn Dorsey: "They look pretty sweet."  The game will air on ESPN2 at 12:00pm ET (SHREVEPORT TIMES, 9/25).
