Roger Federer wore an all-black Nike outfit for last night’s second round singles match against Paul Capdeville at the U.S. Open. USA Network’s Al Trautwig called it "almost one-of-a-kind outfit in black.” USA’s John McEnroe: “Gangsta' Roger: all black. I don’t know about that, but he can get away with it at night: no sun. ... It’s sorta cool.” In a taped segment aired prior to his match, Federer said after he beat Andre Agassi in the ‘05 U.S. Open, “that gave me a lot of fans in New York ... and then I had this unbelievable run. People then started to compare me to Tiger Woods.” Federer, on the attention he has received, “It’s really fun, I have to say. At the same time, you think, ‘Oops, my private life is getting smaller now.' People are more intrigued with everything. At the same time, I love it when tennis is being pushed forward, or my face or anybody’s face. I think it’s great when tennis gets a push because that’s what it needs sometimes” (USA, 8/29).
