The WNBA Monarchs drew 10,126 fans for Thursday’s Western Conference semifinals Game One against the Silver Stars at Arco Arena, up 1.3% from 9,994 fans for the Comets-Monarchs '06 Western Conference semifinals Game Two. Game One of that series was played at Houston's Toyota Center. Meanwhile, Thursday night’s Fever-Sun Eastern Conference semifinals Game One drew 7,271 fans, down 4.1% from 7,579 fans for Mystics-Sun '06 Eastern Conference semifinals Game Two. Game One of that series was played at Verizon Center in DC (THE DAILY)....Fever-Sun started 20 minutes late “because of a Little League World Series game on ESPN2” (HARTFORD COURANT, 8/24).
BECKHAM TRACKER: The MLS Galaxy drew a sellout crowd of 27,000 fans for Thursday’s match against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center. The game marked MF David Beckham's MLS home debut (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 8/24).
