Published August 20, 2007
Former MLBer Mo Vaughn’s new business venture, Omni N.Y., was profiled on ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” Sunday morning. ESPN’s Kelly Naqi noted Vaughn serves as co-Managing Dir of the company which “provides affordable housing to low-income residents, 95% of whom qualify for Section 8 housing assistance.” Vaughn said, “Don’t get me wrong, we’re a for-profit company. But the tenants win, the city wins, everybody wins in the business that we are in” (“Outside The Lines,” ESPN, 8/19).
NOTES: Nets F Richard Jefferson has pledged a $3-5M gift to the Univ. of Arizona's athletic department, which "could be the largest by a current athlete to his alma mater." Jefferson played at UA from '98-01 (TUCSON CITIZEN, 8/18)....The two-day WEEI/NESN radio telethon, which included a number of fundraising measures conducted around the Red Sox' homestand last week, raised $3.6M for the Jimmy Fund (Mult., 8/19).
