Wheels & Deals: Hendrick Inks Five-Year Deal With GM
Published August 13, 2007
ESPN.com’s David Newton reported Hendrick Motorsports has “verbally agreed to a five-year contract with General Motors,” keeping the organization in Chevrolets through 2012. GM is in the "last year of all its contracts with teams in the Nextel Cup series," and there is “speculation that Joe Gibbs Racing may be leaving for Toyota” (ESPN.com, 8/12)....Official sponsors of The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which ended Sunday in North Dakota, included Budweiser, Jack Daniel’s and Geico. Allstate also brought a 38-foot “mobile garage” to the event, and Budweiser flew out NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and NHRA driver Brandon Bernstein for appearances (USA TODAY, 8/13)....Centurion Boats at The Glen was the official name of yesterday's Nextel Cup race in upstate New York, but ESPN referred to the race as "NASCAR Nextel Cup at The Glen" since Centurion did not purchase any national ads during the broadcast. Meanwhile, Zippo has renewed its title sponsorship of the NASCAR Busch Series race at Watkins Glen Int’l until 2010. The race will continue to be called the Zippo 200 (THE DAILY).
