Sonny Side Up: Cowboys Exec VP & COO Stephen Jones Profiled
Published August 6, 2007
Although Cowboys owner JERRY JONES is “clearly the face of the Cowboys," his oldest son, Exec VP & COO STEPHEN JONES, "is the force behind the scenes" and the "hands-on leader of the day-to-day operation” of the franchise, according to John Whisler of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. In addition to overseeing the daily operation of the team and Texas Stadium, Stephen has been a “major player in the new stadium project,” and was “a driving force” in securing the new venue as the site of the 2011 Super Bowl. While his accomplishments “have generally gone unnoticed” by the public, Stephan indicated that he is “perfectly content to toil in his father’s shadow.” He said,: “I feel like I’m making a difference. But I’m sure if that role changed and I needed to be more out front, I would do it.” Stephen also heads up the family’s real estate and oil and gas businesses (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 8/5).
