In a Q&A with SI.com's Richard Deitsch, Dan Patrick said he has “talked to [NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Chair] Dick Ebersol about covering the Olympics" next summer.  Patrick: "[Ebersol] said, ‘Do you want to go to Beijing? ... I don’t know what you’ll do, but I’ll find a spot for you.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’d like to.’”  Patrick cannot appear on TV during the NFL season as part of his departure from ESPN (SI.com, 8/2).

DRILL SERGEANT: In Minneapolis, Judd Zulgad reports Vikings coach Brad Childress has “mandated that only individual [training camp] drills can be filmed before video and still photography must cease," as he fears opponents "might get a competitive advantage by seeing too much, especially on the Internet.”  WCCO-CBS sports anchor Mark Rosen said, “That’s the meat and potatoes of what we do. … We can talk about [QB] Tarvaris Jackson completing a long pass to [WR] Bobby Wade but guess what? You’re not going to see that on any telecast” (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/3).

BOLT OF ACTIVITY: ESPN Radio 710 L.A. will broadcast 12 Chargers regular-season games this year, with Josh Lewin serving as play-by-play announcer, Hank Bauer as analyst and Jim Laslavic as sideline reporter for home games.  Meanwhile, the station again this year will have a weekly Thursday afternoon segment featuring RB LaDainian Tomlinson (Chargers).

MLS IN EUROPE: London-based Viasat Broadcasting has secured the exclusive rights to broadcast up to two MLS games a week on its Viasat Sport 2 and Viasat East channels throughout Scandinavia, the Baltic states other eastern European countries for the remainder of the season (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 8/3).
