NOTES: Ad-supported cable averaged its best-ever audience share in July with a 62.6. During the month, ESPNews posted total viewer gains of 20%, but ESPN was down 20% and ESPN Classic down 34% (DAILY VARIETY, 8/1)....ESPN earned a 4.9 final Nielsen cable rating and averaged 6.57 million viewers for its coverage of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Allstate 400 at the Brickyard (THE DAILY)
TOUR DE FRANCE: Versus’ coverage of the ’07 Tour de France was seen in 20.5 million HHs, the highest mark in the network’s history, including Lance Armstrong’s final event in ’05. The net averaged a 0.4 coverage area rating for its 23 telecasts, even with last year, while seeing a 10.8% increase in average viewers. Also, Versus.com saw a 20% jump in page visits over last year with 23.5 million (Versus). OLN's coverage of the Tour de France in Canada was up 13% (TORONTO STAR, 8/3).
MLB NOTES: SNY earned a 5.9/ (436,000 HHs) for Brewers-Mets on Tuesday, the highest-rated Mets telecast ever on a N.Y. RSN. The previous record was a 5.8 for games against the Braves on FSNY in '99 and '01 (SNY)....Comcast SportsNet drew a season-high 6.9/ (240,000 HHs) for Phillies-Cubs on Wednesday (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/3)....KCAL-Ind earned a 6.4/ (505,000 HHs) for Giants-Dodgers on Wednesday, the Dodgers' highest local rating for a regular-season game since a 7.4 in '98 for Dodgers-Angels on KTLA-CW (L.A. TIMES, 8/3)....NESN's premiere of "Sox Appeal" on Wednesday earned a 6.5 cable rating in the Boston market, second only in the night to NESN's coverage of Orioles-Red Sox (THE DAILY).
