Penguins Push Back Opening Of New Arena To '10-11 season
Published August 3, 2007
The Penguins will delay the opening of their new arena until the start of the '10-11 season “rather than rush to have it completed for at least a portion" of the '09-10 season, according to Mark Belko of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. Penguins VP/Communications Tom McMillan said that the team will “lose a couple of months of revenue from the new building by delaying the opening, but in the end felt it was prudent to ensure quality design and construction.” He added that the additional time would allow the Penguins, who plan to break ground next spring, to “check out more arenas for ideas and continue to participate in the process set up by the city to get public comment on the project and the development expected to take place around it.” Belko notes the new timetable “isn't expected to increase the cost” of the $290M arena (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 8/3).
