Jets, Giants Say No To $421M Roof On New Meadowlands Stadium
Published July 25, 2007
The Jets and Giants yesterday said that they “don't want a roof on their new stadium in the Meadowlands no matter how much it costs,” after the state of New Jersey released a report showing a roof would cost about $421M, according to Matthew Futterman of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. The teams have “resisted enclosing their stadium all along, saying it would cost too much money and that they favor the home-field advantage in cold weather, but the [NJSEA] wanted a formal accounting of the project.” NJSEA Chair Carl Goldberg said that the $160,000 report was a “worthwhile investment for the state to decide whether it wanted to spend money to enclose the stadium and perhaps try to land the Super Bowl.” Goldberg said that “no final decision has been made” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 7/25).
