Rusty Wallace Considering Selling Majority Stake In Race Team
Published July 24, 2007
Former NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace, who now serves as an analyst for ESPN/ABC, is "contemplating the future sale of a majority stake" in his race team, Rusty Wallace Inc., according to Marty Smith of ESPN.com. Wallace, who is expanding his Busch Series operation to two teams next season, indicated that his ESPN/ABC contract "forbids" him from fielding Cup teams, "given the conflict of interest involved." Wallace: "Selling off a majority stake in the race team would allow me to focus more on my television career, and still ensure the race team's still in proper hands. I'd like to be minority owner." Wallace indicated that the move "wouldn't happen until 2009 at the earliest, and added that some current sponsors are among the interested parties in acquiring majority ownership" (ESPN.com, 7/23).
