Chargers Stop Selling Season Tickets, Form Waiting List
Published July 24, 2007
The Chargers have stopped selling season tickets for the upcoming season and are forming a waiting list for future season tickets (Chargers). In San Diego, Kevin Acee noted it is the first time the team has created a waiting list since '84. The total number of season tickets sold for this season will “likely be around 65,000 -- almost 9,000 more than any time in team history.” The total is “some 30,000 more than the Chargers sold for the 2004 season and approximately 10,000 more than were sold last year.” Chargers Exec VP & COO Jim Steeg said that the team “could have completely sold out via season tickets.” But Steeg added, “We thought it was important that we give an opportunity (to buy tickets) to people that can’t afford (season tickets)” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/23).
LAWSUIT: A Chargers season-ticket holder has filed a class-action lawsuit against the team in San Diego County Superior Court, accusing it of “unjust enrichment for not automatically giving refunds to those who bought tickets to a second playoff game that was never played” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/21).
