The FBI is investigating an NBA referee who allegedly wagered on basketball games over the past two seasons, including ones he officiated, and made calls that affected the games' outcomes. While the NBA is reserving comment, the tenor of blog postings is likely to portend opinions in newspapers and on television in the days ahead. TrueHoop writes "this is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a professional sports league;" Deadspin adds the "next few weeks will probably find David Stern longing for the days when his league was merely known as a 'thug' league."
