Texas A&M Drops Nike, Inks Deal With Adidas
Published July 17, 2007
adidas has signed a contract with Texas A&M Univ., replacing Nike as the school's athletic shoe and apparel sponsor, according to Sarah Skidmore of the AP. While terms of the deal are not known, adidas last week agreed to an eight-year deal with the Univ. of Michigan valued at $60M in cash and merchandise, plus a $6.5M signing bonus -- “the company’s largest university deal to date.” According to Texas A&M’s Web site, Nike informed the school months ago that it “would not match the adidas bid.” The Texas A&M System Board of Regents “considered contract offers from Nike, Adidas and Easton Sports" (AP, 7/17).
