Steve & Barry's Adds New Women's Items Under Starbury Line
Published July 17, 2007
Steve & Barry’s has added eight new styles of low-priced women's footwear -- featuring colors such as “hot pink and bright blue, as well as a fashionable style” -- to Stephon Marbury’s Starbury line, according to the ORLANDO SENTINEL's Hayley Mccann, who is part of the paper's summer internship program for high school students. The shoes cost $14.95 per pair, the same as the men’s Starbury line launched last August. More female styles are “in the works,” and Marbury said, “There’s probably gonna be more girls stuff than boys stuff.” Steve & Barry’s Senior Manager Rachel Brenner added, “When we first released the (Starbury) collection … we found right away that girls were buying the boys sizes." Mccann notes Marbury was in Orlando yesterday as part of a 17-day, 38-city promotional tour for the line. He gave a free pair of shoes and a Steve & Barry’s gift card to each player from the Orlando and N.Y. teams playing in the AAU Girls Basketball National Championships at Disney’s Wide World of Sports (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 7/17).
ARE YOU LISTENING, MJ? Appearing on ESPNews via satellite from Orlando yesterday, Marbury said of his Starbury line, "We want to actually do something with Michael Jordan. We want to [have] a Star Jordan shoe. We feel like Michael Jordan is the king of the sneaker business, so we want to be with the king and we want to expand our brand." He added, "I see it being beyond the United States, being in every country, every place where you can buy athletic gear” (ESPNews, 7/16).
