Nike, Armstrong Launching New Livestrong Collection
Published July 17, 2007
Nike and Lance Armstrong announced today that over 70 million Livestrong wristbands have been sold since their introduction in ’04, and USA Today reports sales have resulted in $63M for cancer research and programs. Additionally, the Livestrong collection of apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and kids will launch on October 2, and Nike will donate 100% of the proceeds from the collection to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, marking the first time in Nike’s history it is directing all proceeds from product sales to a charitable outlet. The collection is designed for training, running and cycling, and will be available at Niketown.com and Livestrong.org. Armstrong will wear the apparel while running in the N.Y. Marathon in November (THE DAILY). Nike President & CEO Mark Parker said, “Our goal is to create a sustainable process to support Lance in his drive for momentum around this issue” (USA TODAY, 7/17).
