Brewers' On-Field Success Leading To Increase In Ticket Sales
Published July 13, 2007
The Brewers have passed 2.4 million tickets sold this season, the “second highest total in team history,” according to Don Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The team is averaging 33,034 fans per game, and it that pace continues, it will finish the season drawing 2,675,748 fans; the Brewers' all-time attendance mark of 2,811,041 was set in ’01, the year Miller Park opened. Brewers Exec VP/Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said for Saturday and Sunday against the Rockies “we have 40,000 tickets sold for each game already. And the three games against the [Giants] coming up, we have sold more than 40,000 ticket each game.” Schlesinger added having 1B Prince Fielder, SS J.J. Hardy, and Ps Francisco Cordero and Ben Sheets selected to the All-Star Game “makes a big difference and they are getting national recognition. That converts into ticket sales and as we get more national exposure, that fosters excitement.” Walker adds that concessions are up 30% over last year, parking is up 30-35%, and merchandise is up 40% (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/13).
ON DECK: WSSP-AM today will debut a one-hour show called “The On Deck Show,” which will air before most Brewers games. WTMJ-AM, the Brewers’ radio rights holder, airs pre-and post-game shows, and WSSP “wants to vie for that audience.” WSSP Program Director Ryan Maguire: “It’s amazing to me there is so little coverage of this team aside from the play by play, for a team that is in first place and all of the euphoria that is around it” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/13).
