Tickets For MLB All-Star Events Hot On Secondary Market
Published July 5, 2007
By some estimates, “as much as a quarter of the crowd of 40,500 for Tuesday's [MLB All-Star Game] at AT&T Park will have tickets purchased ... from online-ticket exchanges or brokers,” according to Tom FitzGerald of the S.F. CHRONICLE. At least one ticket sold for $6,050 on TicketsNow.com, while StubHub reported a high of $4,705 and a pair of field-club seats fetched a high of $4,500 each on the Giants' Double Play Ticket Window (DPTW). Giants VP/Ticket Services Russ Stanley said about 1,000 tickets have been sold on the DPTW, and on average the prices are 4.5-5 times face value, which ranges up to $285 for a field-club seat. The Giants said that the average price for All-Star Game tickets on the DPTW is $875, while the average for the Home Run Derby and Futures Game are $320 each. TicketsNow said that its average All-Star Game price was $1,508, “nearly $500 better than any previous average among recent baseball All-Star Games.” The average price on StubHub as of this week was $913, dropping $254 in the last two weeks and $354 from two months ago. StubHub PR Dir Sean Pate said, "We've sold nearly double the volume that we did last year in Pittsburgh. We would anticipate a more attractive game this year since [S.F.] is a tourist destination and [Giants LF] Barry Bonds is in the game” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/5).
