New Breeders’ Cup Qualifying System Launches July 28
Published July 5, 2007
The new 24-race Breeders’ Cup Challenge, in which the winning horses of each race qualify for the October 27 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Monmouth Park, will begin July 28 at Saratoga with the Whitney Handicap and several other races, according to Anthony Affrunti of the N.Y. POST. The “Win and You’re In” campaign then moves to Arlington Park on August 11, Del Mar on August 19, Belmont Park on September 30, Keeneland on October 6 and Oak Tree at Santa Anita on October 7. The new system was “created with the hopes of expanding television coverage and attracting new fans." ABC will air the races from Saratoga on July 28, with the other races on ESPN (N.Y. POST, 7/4).
