Sabres Forecast Payroll Bump After Gloomy Financial Outlook
Published June 15, 2007
Sabres Managing Partner Larry Quinn announced that the team’s payroll will rise next season, “countering a somewhat gloomy forecast he and owner B. Thomas Golisano showered on fans last month,” according to John Vogl of the BUFFALO NEWS. The salary cap is expected to rise $4-6M from last season's $44M, which the Sabres reached. While Golisano previously “expressed concern … about the team’s ability to make money if the payroll rose with the league’s threshold,” Quinn said that the team’s “revenue has increased, and its costs will as well.” Quinn: “It didn’t all come from revenue sharing. Not even close. It’s come from tremendous growth in income due to the tremendous fan support.” The Sabres sold out every home game last season (BUFFALO NEWS, 6/15).
