AEG Receives Contract To Manage Kemper Arena
Published June 8, 2007
The K.C. City Council unanimously chose AEG to manage Kemper Arena, replacing Global Spectrum, according to Deann Smith of the K.C. STAR. AEG already has a contract to manage Sprint Center, which is expected to open in October. Council members said that they “thought AEG would aggressively market both arenas and fill them with events, thus reducing the city’s subsidy of Kemper.” However, several members said that they "wanted the city and AEG to work closely with the American Royal [livestock show] to ensure that Kemper remained viable for the long term.” Council member Terry Riley said, “I don’t want to get into a situation where we have bidding wars going on and we end up losing revenue” (K.C. STAR, 6/8).
