K.C. Group Proposes $1B Sports & Entertainment Resort
Published June 5, 2007
K.C. Development Group (KCDG) yesterday unveiled its proposal to build Sports World Live, a $1B “sports and entertainment resort,” on roughly 1,500 acres in Wyandotte County (KS) near where I-435 intersects with the Missouri River, according to Mark Wiebe of the K.C. STAR. KCDG said that it “needs public financing to help pay for infrastructure, including a levee and a new highway interchange.” A government official put the figure at “several hundred million” dollars. Sports World Live Principal Craig Chambers said that the project would include a 6,500-seat arena; more than three dozen athletic fields; a 252-room hotel and an all-suites hotel with 132 units; a “technology park” that would broadcast and produce events held at the resort; and nearly 1 million square feet of retail. Wiebe notes Principal Tom Lyons “would use connections established through his sports management company, GSI Sports, to book events” (K.C. STAR, 6/5).
