NBA: Through nine NBA playoff games, ABC is averaging a 2.9 Nielsen rating, down 19.4% from a 3.6 through nine games last year. ESPN averaged a 2.2 coverage-area rating for 14 NBA playoff games in the first and second rounds, down 21.4% from a 2.8 for 15 games last season....ESPN earned a 2.2 overnight cable Nielsen rating for its coverage of the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday, up 47% from a 1.5 in ’06. Among the cities whose teams had the best chances in the lottery, Memphis ranked second overall with a 4.7, Boston ranked sixth with a 3.7 and Milwaukee ranked seventh with a 3.6 (THE DAILY).
HORSES: NBC’s coverage of the Preakness Stakes earned a 4.9/13 final national rating, down 9.3% from ’06. The pre-race portion of the broadcast earned a 3.9/10, down 5.1% from last year, while the race drew a 5.7/14, a 13.6% decrease from a 6.6/16 in ’06 (NBC).
CANADA: The CBC averaged 1.7 million viewers for the Senators-Sabres NHL Eastern Conference Finals, down 6% from the Hurricanes-Sabres Eastern Conference Finals in ’06. Meanwhile, no playoff game “cracked the top 25 in the Toronto area during the week of May 7-13” (TORONTO STAR, 5/24)....The CBC drew 503,000 viewers for the May 19 MLS United-Toronto FC game that was played at the same time as Senators-Sabres Game Five and aired on tape-delay following the hockey game, the net’s largest audience for a Toronto FC game by over 350,000 people (TORONTO STAR, 5/25).
