ISLAND OF ADVENTURE: PGATour.com’s free live coverage of the 17th hole at The Players drew over 3.2 million unique users and 4.7 million visits, up 15% from ’06, and a total of more than 70 million page views. There were over 1.1 million video streams for Live@ The Players a 32% increase from the same day in ’06 for an average of 25 minutes (PGA Tour).
PORTABLE TEE: Golf Channel President Page Thompson in a Q&A with the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS’ Joe Logan said the net in the “immediate future ... is bringing the Golf Channel to mobile phones as well as continuing to build our [VOD] library.” He also said the net wants to grow its Web site. Thompson added while linear programming “is the foundation of our channel, we can now give people our programming whenever and wherever they want” with VOD (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 5/22).
BLEEPED OUT: WSCR-AM GM Paul Agase did not say if the station faced a fine for White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen using profanity on the air Friday morning, but he said that the station “attempted to wipe out the profanity by using a ‘dump’ button.” Agase said, “We have editorial procedures in place that were activated. We believe that most, if not all, of the offensive language was deleted.” The station runs on a seven-second delay (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/22).
FLYING HIGH: Mediacom signed a deal to carry an extra 20-game Cardinals package on FSN Midwest in time for Saturday’s game against the Tigers. Insight Communications is still not carrying the package (CABLEFAX DAILY, 5/22).
