RIO GRAND: The city of Fortaleza, in the Brazilian state of Ceara, is “home to the largest Red Wings fan base in South America.” More than 430 Brazilian fans each day visit redwingsbrasil.blogspot.com for updates and chat rooms, and “many also listen to Red Wings broadcasts on WXYT via the Internet.” Flavio de Moura, who updates the site, said that fans “fell in love with the Red Wings when they played” videogames. They also “fell in love with the broadcasts of Ken Kal and Paul Woods” (DETROIT NEWS, 5/21).
NAMING RIGHTS: The Devils renamed the ECHL Trenton Titans the Trenton Devils and unveiled a new jersey that “matches the NHL club’s in color and style.” Included is the Devils’ “familiar forked NJ crest, with Trenton — headed by a horned T and N — scripted in an arc across the top.” The Devils will also “take a much stronger role in marketing and at attempting to increase attendance.” Devils Senior Exec VP & COO Chris Modrzynski said that “having the club’s NHL, AHL and ECHL team all under one umbrella will improve what the clubs can offer to fans” (Trenton TIMES, 5/19).
