Sprint Nextel Chief Service Officer President TIM KELLY has been named CMO, replacing MARK SCHWEITZER, and will assume responsibility for the development and execution of Sprint Nextel’s national marketing strategy. Senior VP/Finance Operations STEVE NIELSEN will replace Kelly (Sprint Nextel)....Champ Car World Series named former ATP Senior VP/Communications DAVID HIGDON Exec VP/Strategic Development & Communications (Michael Smith, SportsBusiness Journal)....Dow Jones Consumer Media Group named former ESPN Exec VP/Multimedia Sales MICHAEL ROONEY to the new position of Chief Revenue Officer (ADAGE.com, 5/10)....The Rockets officially promoted Assistant GM DARYL MOREY to GM. He takes over for retiring GM CARROLL DAWSON, who will become a senior consultant (Rockets)....NICOLE FERRO will serve as an assistant in the Minor League Baseball marketing department (Minor League Baseball).

FACILITIES: SMG promoted JOE MAZUR and SANDIE AARON to Regional VPs. Mazur was Senior GM of the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State Univ. Aaron was a Regional Manager for SMG. RON WILLNER was named GM of the Wolstein Center, replacing Mazur (THE DAILY)....AEG Events & Media named JOSH FURLOW VP/Tour Development & Operations (AEG)....The Rose Quarter promoted Exec Dir of Event Sales & Management CHRIS OXLEY to Assistant GM. Dir of Event Sales & Management HOWARD ZUCKERMAN will assume Oxley’s former role (Rose Quarter).

EARNING COMMISSION: The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) named BILL HANSON Chair and REGINA ZARA Secretary (NASC)....Utah Senate President JOHN VALENTINE and Price Realty Group President J. STEVEN PRICE will co-Chair the Utah Sports Commission, replacing AL MANSELL, who is leaving on a religious mission (DESERET NEWS, 5/10).
