HORSE TRAILER: U.S. Sen. MITCH MCCONNELL (R-KY) has re-introduced a multimillion-dollar tax break for racehorse owners “that could cost taxpayers more than a quarter of a billion dollars over five years.” The “Equine Equity Act” would reduce from two years to one the time an owner would have to hold a racehorse “before it would be eligible for the capital gains tax rate at sale.” The bill would also allow horses “to be depreciated over three years; some are now depreciated over seven” (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 5/3).
