Names Around Baseball: USA Today Profiles Brewers’ Attanasio

Brewers Owner MARK ATTANASIO is profiled in a sports section Cover Story by USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale, who notes the team has seen a 20% attendance increase over projections this year. MLB Commissioner BUD SELIG said, “He is the perfect owner for a Milwaukee franchise. Mark is a wonderful human being and has been a terrific owner. What he’s done has been extraordinary. I’m very impressed.” Nightengale notes the team has the best record in the NL, and “with the young nucleus of players that [GM] DOUG MELVIN and his staff have assembled, they have the talent to win.” However, Attanasio said that the team “will never be a big-market team.” Attanasio: “If they all perform like we believe they will, no team would be able to afford to keep them all.
