Samsung Signs On To Sponsor Olympics Through 2016

Samsung has signed a new eight-year TOP sponsorship with the IOC through 2016. Samsung first became a TOP sponsor for the ’98 Nagano Games (Samsung). Terms of the deal were not announced, but estimates range from $60M “or more per four-year Olympic cycle.” Samsung joins Coca-Cola as “the only other worldwide sponsor to sign up” past the 2012 Olympics (AROUNDTHERINGS.com, 4/23). In Vancouver, Derrick Penner reports Samsung is the seventh of 12 Olympic sponsors committed through the 2010 Games. The IOC’s global sponsors “contribute about one-third of the organization’s multi-billion-dollar ongoing effort,” which amounted to C$1.3B between ’01-04, the last period for which the IOC released figures (VANCOUVER SUN, 4/24).
