Yes You Can: Canadian Athlete Fund Wins Legal Ruling

After over two years of “expensive legal debate, the charity called the Canadian Athletes Now Fund has won back its original name — The See You In — moniker from the Canadian Olympic Committee [COC],” according to Alison Korn of the TORONTO SUN. The ruling by the Federal Court “quashed the COC claim to the trademarks and granted the charity’s application for judicial review with costs.” The fund has provided over 500 Canadian athletes with individual grants of C$6,000 and has raised in excess of C$4M in ten years. The COC in ’04 filed to trademark the names See You In Torino, See You In Beijing and See You In Vancouver — host cities for the 2006, 2008 and 2010 Olympics (TORONTO SUN, 4/20).
